Remember that time I accidentally ‘canceled’ sectionals? Yeah, me too! You show one ugly, large sectional and you break the internet, oops! I promise there are SO many stylish sectionals and this post will prove it!
There is no need for a sofa to be such a monstrosity! However, if you own one of these sectionals already, let’s go over what you can do to make it look a bit less obtrusive in your space! This post is all about choosing and styling stylish sectionals!
How To Style Your Sectional
So you (or let’s be honest your husband) picked out a HUGE sectional that is a serious eyesore in your home. I get it, I’ve seen it a million times! You’re not ready to buy a new sofa but you want to level up the look of your current large sectional, here’s what you can do.
First, identify and try to continue with the color scheme of your room. Gather throw pillows in groupings throughout the sofa, to break up the size of the sectional. This will break up the eye around just how LARGE AND IN CHARGE the sofa actually is. Second, you can add throw blankets of similar colors to bring the eyes to different parts of the sectional instead of focusing on one big piece of furniture.
Another way to help offset the size of a gigantic sofa is balancing out the heaviness throughout the space. If you have windows in your space, make sure the curtain rod is as high as you can get to the ceiling to bring the eyes up and make the room feel larger. As well as going wider than the window with your curtains! You’ll want to use this simple rule, take the width of the window and multiply it by 1.4 and that’s the ideal width of the rod that you’ll hang above the window. (THIS IS AN INDUSTRY SECRET AND TRICK OF THE TRADE!) If you have the wall space for it, you will want to bring in oversized art pieces or large mirrors to continue to balance out the space. I explain more in-depth in my TikTok video to a follower’s dilemma below too!
Finding Stylish a Sectional
So you’ve decided you’re going to purchase a new stylish sectional. You’re out shopping for a new sofa and you walk directly into the sectional section, what do you look for? Let me start off by saying that a built-in cup holder, LED lights and a reclining seat are definitely red flags in the furniture department. I know the large seating can be enticing but there are so many great sectionals out there that are less tacky and provide a ton of seating still! There are so many wonderful and, let’s be honest, appropriately sized sofas out there that you can find and then you can accessorize to match your style. If seating is your issue, don’t be afraid to add in additional seating elements like swivel chairs! Everyone doesn’t have to sit on one sofa.
One of my favorite brands is Interior Define for sectionals. They are amazing because everything is fully customizable from fabric, to size, to fill, and even the legs! I have TWO Interior Define Sloan sectionals and I highly recommend them. Below are a few of my favorites from Interior Define. (This is not sponsored, this is not an ad, this is truly my honest opinion!)
If you are a fan of the Restoration Hardware Down Sofa, you can get something that is comfy and oversized for your space! Amazon has quite a few dupes that are fluffy and super inviting to snuggle with your family!
As for color, a white sofa will always look chic and beautiful but if it doesn’t work for your family, try a gray sofa! Leather is always a great choice for an elegant look too! I’ve put together a few of my favorite stylish sectionals that are all from Amazon for an awesome price! They have a seriously impressive selection!
