Multipurpose spaces are sometimes a necessity and sometimes nice to have. Either way designing a multipurpose space takes intention to make it look as beautiful as possible while still being super functional. Check out these tips for making your multifunctional space look and function well!
Define The Space
Before creating your design plan or choosing furniture, make sure you define your uses for the multipurpose space. Once you have defined uses, you can map out or list out all of the functions space holds. For example, you may need to use a small living space as a TV area, a dining room, and a home office. Knowing this will allow you to choose pieces and layouts that will accommodate all of your needs. For example, you may realize you need to get a small desk as an end table. (Thank me later 😉)
Choose Multi-Functional Furniture
Furniture selection is arguably the most important part of designing a multipurpose space. Choosing furniture that has multiple functions will make your life easier! Coffee tables that double as storage, console tables that can be used as desks, and sleek futons as incredible options for multi-purpose furniture.
Clean Up After Each Function
When a space has multiple functions it is imperative you don’t let clutter build up. No one wants to see piles of laundry while they eat dinner. Look at yesterday’s work when waking up in the morning or work next to last night’s dirty dishes. Make sure you clean up space after each use so that when you utilize it’s other functions you aren’t reminded of everything else on your to-do list.
Cohesive Design Theme
By decorating with a cohesive theme throughout your home, everything will flow together nicely. You will be able to swap things around as desired and recreate your multipurpose space multiple times if you keep a consistent design theme and colors.
