When you are on a budget it can be difficult to make your window treatments high-end and luxurious. This is the best Ikea curtains hack to make your inexpensive Ikea curtains look like custom draperies.
- Pack of IKEA curtains longer than you need- I used the Ikea Tibast 98” curtains in blue
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Ikea Riktig curtain hooks – you only need 1 set per pair of curtains
- ATack Double-Sided Tape
- Travel Steamer
WHY THIS IS THE BEST IKEA CURTAINS HACK:
The key to making your Ikea curtains look like they are custom drapery is the length and hang. This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make your curtains the perfect length for your room and to hang properly like draperies.
Open curtains and lay on a flat surface where the panel can be full laid out.
Measure the height that you need for the curtains. Note you should hang your curtains as close to the ceiling as possible and have them just barely kiss the floor at the bottom. 😘
Fold the bottom of the curtain to the desired length across the entire bottom of the panel.
Use the double-sided tape to create a ham at the bottom of the curtain to the length you need.
Use the Ikea Riktig curtain hangers to create pleats and to hang your curtains. The best way to do this is to use the loops 3 out from the center of the pleat (as seen on the ikea curtain panel directions).
Gather the curtains to hang by folding the pleats to hang.
Hang the curtain (I used the Ikea Dignitet wire system to hang my curtains).
Use your hands to train the pleats of the curtains. This ensures that they will hang properly overtime.
Carefully steam each curtain panel from top to bottom. This will remove all of the wrinkles from the curtain being folded in its packaging and it will improve the look of your curtains.
Continue to use your hands and the steamer to train the pleats to hang properly on the curtain from the top to the bottom. It is important that each pleat makes its way from the top of the curtain to the bottom of the curtain.
Fuss your curtains to the location you want them to hang.
